Conclusion

Fixed income markets are becoming more liquid, more connected and increasingly technology-enabled.

Yet the findings throughout this research show that progress is bringing its own set of challenges.

Liquidity conditions have improved for a majority of leaders, but fragmentation continues to make finding and evaluating the right source of liquidity difficult. Firms are responding by prioritising better discovery tools, stronger pre-trade analytics and greater automation, while structural developments such as portfolio trading and new liquidity providers continue to reshape execution.

Technology will play an increasingly important role in addressing these challenges. Leaders see clear opportunities for AI across risk management, liquidity discovery and execution optimisation. The path towards wider adoption, however, runs directly through the industry’s data infrastructure. Quality, integration and standardisation remain prominent concerns and will influence how quickly firms can translate AI investment into measurable value.

All of this is taking place against an uncertain investment backdrop. Interest rates, geopolitics, inflation and currency volatility are simultaneously influencing portfolio decisions, while regulation is extending further into AI, transparency and market infrastructure. In response, liquidity management has become the leading strategic priority for firms over the next two years.

Looking towards 2030, the firms best equipped to navigate this environment will be those able to connect these priorities. Reliable data can provide a clearer view across fragmented markets, connected infrastructure can improve access to liquidity, and AI can help investment teams interpret information and make decisions at greater speed.

The technology will continue to evolve. The greater challenge will be building the data, workflows and investment discipline required to use it confidently through whatever market conditions come next.
