Welcome to the first ever edition of Fixed Income Leaders Pulse, a new monthly briefing built for our FILS community. Each month, we will unpack the themes shaping fixed income trading through exclusive research and our event data, taken straight from the leaders who are shaping the industry.
This is the first of four issues built around one idea: trust in fixed income data is the foundation everything else stands on. We start where that foundation is built. Provenance, or the ability to trace a price back to where it really came from.

FROM THE FILS USA PLAYBOOK 2026
Fixed income does not appear to have a data volume problem. It has a trust problem.
A price on a screen looks simple enough. A number, a ticker, nothing to question. Ask the desk to defend it under pressure and the simplicity disappears fast
Where did it actually come from? What is it built on? Could you show a client, an auditor, or a regulator the working? Not just the answer?
Increasingly, the honest answer to this question is no. In a survey of senior fixed income leaders for the FILS USA Playbook 2026, 69% named fragmented liquidity and inconsistent pricing across venues as the single biggest obstacle to price transparency. Most firms' instinct, faced with a number like that, is to go looking for more data. But our survey suggests that instinct is misplaced.
Cite fragmented liquidity and inconsistent pricing as the biggest obstacle to transparency
Say full lifecycle transparency is at least moderatley important
Believe full lifecycle transparency to be critical
An overwhelming 92% of respondents say full lifecycle transparency, tracing a price back to its original source documents, corporate actions and prospectus, is at least moderately important. Only 8% call it critical. That gap is the real story. It is not that firms lack data. In fact, it is that they can't always trust where their data came from, or prove it when it matters most.
What provenance actually means
Provenance sounds abstract until a price gets challenged. Then it's the difference between showing exactly which bond prospectus, corporate action or lifecycle event a number is built on, and simply asserting that the number is right. One is defensible. The other is a judgment call dressed up as a fact.
This is the specific gap SIX is built to close: linking bond prospectus documentation, reference data, lifecycle events, corporate actions and evaluated pricing into one traceable workflow, so a price isn't just a number. It's a number with a paper trail.
“Price confidence increasingly depends on lifecycle transparency and document traceability, not just market feeds. Without provenance, firms revert to manual checks and conservative assumptions.”

AI Gets The Headlines. Data Got the Votes
Asked what will drive the next wave of innovation in credit e-trading, 74% of FILS USA attendees named a data-driven factor as the real driver
48% specified AI directly. Another 26% pointed to data, analytics and pricing intelligence, the infrastructure sitting quietly underneath every AI headline.
That split matters. An AI model trained on data nobody can trace back to source is not intelligent, it is just confidently wrong, faster, at scale. You cannot automate your way past a trust problem. You can only automate it faster.
Before fixed income builds the AI-enabled desk everyone keeps talking about, it needs the one thing this entire issue keeps circling back to: data it can actually stand behind.
This was one session from three days of debate at FILS USA 2026, featured in our Post-Event Report.

The next edition of the FILS Europe Playbook
We surveyed senior fixed income leaders across Europe's largest buy-side markets on liquidity, data and AI readiness heading into 2030.
The same data and trust challenges this issue covers are playing out across European desks too. Asked what's standing in the way of execution today, most respondents did not point to data quality first. They pointed to something more basic, simply knowing where the best liquidity actually is. The full findings will be published in early October.
IN NEXT MONTH'S EDITION
Pricing Confidence Through Provenance.
Why evaluated pricing only means something when it's backed by trusted reference data, and what that looks like for municipals, high yield, ABS and MBS.
If you cannot trace it, can you really trust it?
